Day 1: VALENCIA - VILNIUS

Meeting at the departures level of Manises Airport at 04:00 AM to take our Lufthansa flight to Vilnius, with a stopover in Frankfurt. Scheduled arrival in the Lithuanian capital at 12:45 PM. First introduction to the city with an initial sightseeing visit. Founded after invasions by Baltic tribes (Aestii), Vilnius later received Slavic populations and, from the 11th century onwards, Germanic and Jewish communities. The first written mention of Vilnius dates back to 1323, in letters by King Gediminas. Transfer to the hotel and accommodation.

Day 2: VILNIUS - TRAKAI.

Breakfast. We will start the day with a visit to the Old Town, one of the largest and best-preserved medieval quarters in Eastern Europe and also one of the longest in Europe. It covers 3.6 km² of built-up area and is home to nearly 1,500 historic buildings. Although Vilnius is renowned for its Baroque architecture, the Old Town also features outstanding examples of Gothic, Renaissance and Art Deco styles. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994. Today, the Lithuanian capital is considered one of the cities with the strongest character in Eastern Europe. We will tour the city’s most emblematic landmarks, beginning with the Synagogue of the Jewish Quarter, one of the most important in Europe at the end of the 19th century. We will also visit the magnificent Cathedral, with its striking neoclassical façade; the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul, built from 1668 on the site where Milda, the pagan goddess of love, was once worshipped and considered one of the most beautiful Baroque churches in the city; and the Church of St. Nicholas, the oldest church in Lithuania. We will end the morning with a visit to the “Republic of Užupis”, a picturesque district near the Old Town that was declared an “Independent Republic” by its residents—mostly artists—who have endowed it with its own constitution, passports and independence day. Lunch at leisure. In the afternoon, we will depart to visit Trakai Castle, located about 30 km from Vilnius. It was the capital of Lithuania during the Middle Ages and the seat of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The area has been declared a National Park for both the natural beauty of its lakes and its historical significance. The impressive castle dates back to the 13th century and stands on a small island in the middle of an idyllic lake, whose waters reflect its imposing red-brick walls and slender towers. Return to Vilnius, transfer and overnight at the hotel.

Day 3: VILNIUS - KAUNAS - SIAULIAI - RUNDALE - RIGA.

Breakfast. Departure towards Kaunas, the eternal rival of Vilnius and former capital of Lithuania during the interwar period. Worth noting is the city’s large Jewish population, which before World War II accounted for nearly a quarter of its inhabitants. We will visit the 13th-century Castle, the Town Hall Square, and several beautiful churches, including the neo-Byzantine Church of St. Michael the Archangel, the Church of the Resurrection with its magnificent views over the city, and, of course, the Cathedral, the largest Gothic building in Lithuania. Lunch at leisure. We will then continue to Šiauliai to visit the mysterious Hill of Crosses, a major pilgrimage site where thousands of pilgrims come to leave crosses and rosaries. It is estimated that there are currently around 50,000 crosses, a number that continues to grow every year. Our journey continues to Rundāle to visit its magnificent Palace, built in 1740 by Bartolomeo Rastrelli, chief architect of St. Petersburg, in a stunning Italian-inspired Baroque style. Today, it is used by the Latvian authorities to host the country’s most important visitors and foreign heads of state. Arrival in Riga, transfer and accommodation at the hotel.

Day 4

Breakfast. Riga was founded in 1201 and is a former member of the Hanseatic League. It is the capital and largest city of Latvia and, in fact, the largest city in the Baltic States, home to more than one third of Latvia’s population, with over 700,000 inhabitants. It is also the main cultural, educational, financial, commercial and industrial center of the Baltic Sea region. In the morning, we will visit the Central Market, the largest market in the Baltic States and one of the largest in Europe. Opened in 1930, it was the largest architectural project in interwar Latvia. This impressive complex consists of five large Art Nouveau–style halls located in the heart of Riga.We will continue discovering the largest and most cosmopolitan of the Baltic capitals. Riga has been the capital of an independent Latvia since 1991. The city has regained its former splendor and has therefore been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will explore its Old Town, the Convent and Hospital of the Holy Spirit, as well as its oldest civic buildings, such as the House of the Black Heads, headquarters of the famous Brotherhood of captains and merchants. We will also visit the Riga Cathedral, the largest cathedral in the Baltic States, a Gothic masterpiece built in 1211.We will end the morning with a visit to the Art Nouveau District, which boasts the world’s largest collection of Art Nouveau buildings, covering 475 hectares of Riga’s historic center and the surrounding neighborhoods. Lunch at leisure. In the afternoon, we will head to Jūrmala, the most important and traditional seaside resort in the Baltic States. Its vast 33 km-long sandy beach is bordered by dense pine forests. Transfer to the hotel and overnight accommodation.

Day 5: RIGA - SIGULDA - PARNU - TALLÍN.

Breakfast. Departure to the Gauja Valley National Park, one of the most beautiful natural areas in Northern Europe, with its rivers, streams, dense forests and mysterious caves. It was founded in 1973 to protect the region’s flora and fauna. We will continue with a visit to Turaida Castle, built in 1214 by the Order of the Sword and once used as the residence of the Archbishop of Riga. In 1776 it was left in ruins after a devastating fire, and after two centuries of abandonment, restoration work began in 1970, managing to partially restore its former splendor. We will also visit the wooden church of Vidzeme and the Livonian Cemetery. Our tour continues with a visit to the Gutmanis Caves, where the most famous legends of Livonian history originated, and where we can see inscriptions and paintings decorating the cave walls since the 17th century. We will end today’s visits in Pärnu. This coastal town, located about 130 km south of Tallinn, is known as the “summer capital” of Estonia due to the lively atmosphere that fills the city during the summer months. We will then continue to Tallinn. Arrival and accommodation at the hotel.

Day 6: TALLIN.

Breakfast. In the morning we will begin our visit to the capital of Estonia with its medieval old town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is divided into three areas: Toompea, or the “Cathedral Hill”; the Old Town; and the Estonian town. We will visit the magnificent Lutheran Cathedral, a Gothic building constructed after the Danish invasion in the 13th century, before seeing two of the most important buildings in the country: the impressive Alexander Nevsky Orthodox Cathedral, built in 1900, and the magnificent Toompea Castle, seat of the Estonian Parliament. Next, we will visit the Rocca al Mare Open-Air Ethnographic Museum, a wonderful recreation of a traditional Estonian village set in a beautiful forest by the Baltic coast, allowing visitors to discover rural life in Estonia during the 18th and 19th centuries. Transfer to the hotel and overnight accommodation.

Day 7: TALLÍN - HELSINKI.
