Nine days discovering the Norwegian Fjords in good company: mountain landscapes, charming villages, and unforgettable cruises through the fjords. A trip for adults that combines comfort, nature, and culture in a unique journey through Norway.
Day 1. VALENCIA - OSLO
Meeting at the departures floor of Manises Airport at 04:00 h to catch our IBERIA flight to OSLO with a stopover in Madrid. Estimated arrival in the Norwegian capital at 14:30 h. Arrival in OSLO, transfer to the hotel, and check-in. First contact with the city, where we will visit the SCULPTURE PARK. Covering 32 hectares, it is the city’s most famous park and contains 212 sculptures by Gustav Vigeland. Among them, the most famous is the Monolith, a carved column made from a single stone over 14 m high and composed of 121 human figures. It is visited each year by more than a million tourists. Dinner on your own at the harbor. Transfer back to the hotel.
Day 2. OSLO
Breakfast. Visit to the OPERA, one of the best examples of contemporary art. Designed in 2008, it is inspired by an iceberg emerging from the sea and has a capacity of 1,364 spectators. Afterwards, we will visit the city’s FJORD, a 100 km long pearl in a straight line, where we will take a leisurely walk to see the AKERSHUS CASTLE FORTRESS, built in 1300 for the city’s protection, and then head to the CITY HALL. Built in 1931, it is famous not only for its architecture but also because the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony is held there each year. In the afternoon, we will head to the ROYAL PALACE via KARL JOHAN Avenue, the city’s main boulevard. The Royal Palace, built between 1823 and 1848, is neoclassical in style and the current residence of the kings of Norway. We will continue with a visit to the STORTINGET, Oslo’s parliament, built in 1866, another of the city’s most emblematic buildings, and the NATIONAL GALLERY, which houses the largest collection of Norwegian art in the country. We will conclude the visit of Oslo with two of the most representative buildings: the NATIONAL THEATER and the CATHEDRAL. The Oslo Theater is the most emblematic and important venue in the country for performing arts. It was built in 1899 in neoclassical style with an Art Nouveau interior. The Cathedral of the Savior stands out as a Baroque Latin-cross church built entirely of bricks. It was consecrated in 1697 to replace the old Trinity Cathedral, which was destroyed by fire. Transfer back to the hotel and accommodation.
Day 3. OSLO – BYGDOY PENINSULA
Breakfast. In the morning, we will visit the BYGDOY PENINSULA. This neighborhood, located on a western peninsula of Oslo, is known for its beauty, as it is a large area of forests and parks and hosts one of the most important varieties of flora in the country. It is precisely for its beauty that King Oscar I decided to build the OSCARSHALL PALACE on one of its hills in the mid-19th century. It is considered one of the main neo-Gothic constructions in Europe and today serves as a summer residence for the Norwegian royal family. In addition to its beautiful surroundings, it houses numerous museums, including the VIKING MUSEUM, where historic ships are still preserved; the NORWEGIAN FOLK MUSEUM, an open-air museum showcasing the history and culture of Norwegians; and the FRAM MUSEUM, an exhibition about the polar missions carried out by the three great Norwegian explorers Fridtjof Nansen, Otto Sverdrup, and Roald Amundsen. Lunch on your own. We will continue our route to the charming town of AL, located in the Hallingdal region, one of the areas with the most untamed nature in Norway. Check-in at the hotel.
Day 4. AL - FLAM - BERGEN.
Breakfast. Departure to FLAM, where we will take the famous FLAM TRAIN (optional), one of the most spectacular attractions in all of Norway. The train journey will allow us to see some of the country’s most rugged and majestic landscapes; during the 20 km route, we will see rivers crossing deep gorges, waterfalls plunging into cascades, mountains with snow-capped peaks, and mountain farms clinging precariously to the steep Norwegian slopes. After lunch, we will take a boat ride through the Naeroyfjord (a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site), passing through GUDVANGEN and arriving in the city of BERGEN. One of the best-known port cities on the Norwegian coast and the second-largest city in the country. Surrounded by the Hardangerfjord and the Sognefjord, or “fjord of dreams,” Bergen is known as the Hanseatic Wharf, and its historic center has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Arrival in BERGEN and check-in at the hotel.
Day 5. BERGEN
Breakfast. We will spend the day in the beautiful city of BERGEN. We will visit its historic center, starting with the ROYAL RESIDENCE, built by King Hakon Hakonsson between 1247 and 1261, and the ROSENKRANTZ TOWER, dating back to 1270. The tower, recently expanded, served as a fortification and symbol of power against the Hanseatic merchants who dominated the city in the medieval period. From that era is also the FANTOFT CHURCH, built entirely of wood in 1150 and completely reconstructed after the fire it suffered in 1992. Later, we will head to the FISH MARKET at the BERGEN HARBOR. It is undoubtedly the most emblematic area of the city. Its famous colorful wooden houses face the sea in a location that seems straight out of a dream, where we will stroll leisurely, enjoying a landscape you won’t forget. To end the day, we will take the FUNICULAR to ascend the mountain and get the best possible view of Bergen. Afterwards, we will take a walk on the mountain. Transfer back to the hotel and check-in.
Day 6. BERGEN - FORDE
Breakfast. Departure to FORDE, where we will fully enter the fjord region. Waterfalls, rivers, mountains, cliffs, and the most spectacular fjords await us on this journey, during which we will cross the SOGNEFJORD, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site, also called the Fjord of Dreams, and known as one of the most beautiful natural wonders in the world. It is the longest and deepest fjord in Norway, winding inland to the Jotunheimen and Jostedalsbreen National Parks. Lunch on your own. We will continue our journey until we reach Forde. In this small town, we will take a pleasant walk among its typical Norwegian wooden houses. Surrounded by another of the most untamed landscapes of the fjord region, Forde is one of the country’s most well-known traditional villages, where rural heritage blends with the strength of the surrounding mountains. Arrival at the hotel in Forde and check-in.
Day 7. JOSTEDAL - GEIRANGER - ALESUND
Day 8. ALESUND - GJOVIK
Day 9. LILLEHAMMER - VALENCIA
Breakfast. Visit to LILLEHAMMER. In the Middle Ages, the Hamar farm was located here, giving its name to the town that grew around it. Lillehammer was a trading site with its own church. The place is mentioned in the saga of Haakon IV, and a 1390 letter notes that an assembly (ting) was held here. Lillehammer was also a stopover and resting place on the route to Trondheim. The name comes from the Old Norse word hammar, meaning “rocky hill.” Lillehammer received town trading privileges on August 7, 1827, when it had only 50 inhabitants. Although it has grown, it remains a small and peaceful town. It is internationally recognized for the Winter Olympic Games held in 1994. We will stroll through its historic center and see the Lyndsgardsbakkene ski jump, the most famous ski jump in the country. Transfer to Oslo Airport to catch our flight to Valencia with a stopover in Madrid. Estimated arrival in Valencia at 00:15 h. End of the trip.
